Green 6.2 Run Presented by Ruggles Green

Apr 30, 2010   //   by socialuprise   //   Blog  //  No Comments

Social Uprise was excited to be a Nature-Nurture Sponsor of the Green 6.2 Eco-friendly run at CITYCENTRE. We helped provide online promotion, social media consulting & shot raw video for the big event!

With our relationship forming about two weeks before the big race, we knew we had to act fast to get Houston runners aware of the event. Since many runners decide to join these types of events last minute, we knew there was still a marketable audience out there. Social Uprise created the “Green 6.2″ facebook page & twitter account. We then leveraged one of our client accounts, Run Houston to introduce runners to the event. This combined with targeted ads led to a rapid increase in the growth of the facebook account.

Social Uprise also shot raw footage at the event. Check out this great promo by race Emcee Michael Garfield explaining why the Green 6.2 is an important race.

It was a pleasure working with experienced race director Melissa Houser and Graham Schooley. These people know how to throw a great event and follow-up on the feedback.  We definitely look forward to working with them again in the future.

Creating Communities using Twitter Lists for Memorial Park

Memorial Park's Running Community (Photo by Michael Zubia)

One of the ways we’re creating communities for Memorial Park is by organizing their twitter followers according to their favorite park hobbies. By implementing twitter’s list feature, we’ve created sets of running, biking, tennis and golf community twitter lists.

We ask Memorial Park’s followers to participate in the lists by asking them, “which community do you belong to at Memorial Park?’

After receiving replies, the users are then added to their list based on their favorite hobby or sport.

But how does adding a bunch of people on a list contribute to the communities at Memorial Park?

Grouping the twitter followers of Memorial Park into their respective communities allows the users to connect with each other in many ways. Runners can now find fellow runners. Tennis players now can find a partner for a friendly match later that evening. Bikers can find out from their riding peers if the trails are open and if its too muddy for a ride.

These users don’t have to depend on the main Memorial Park tweets for information. All they have to do is follow or click on the list to search for tweets relating to their topic.

Imagine if we had these twitter  lists set up during the time Hurricane Ike hit Houston. During that time, the power at Memorial Park was knocked out, tree branches were scattered everywhere and most of the park was left in pitch black darkness. Yet there were still a ton of runners hitting the exercise trails. It was still  Marathon season and nothing was going to stop these die-hard runners from getting their weekly mileage in.

If these lists were implemented at that time, a runner could simply check the conversations on the list to see if it was safe enough to drive to the park. They can read the tweets, message fellow runners questions and build relationships with other park users.

That is one of the many uses for Memorial Park’s twitter  lists and as time goes on we’ll discover more ways for it to benefit them. If you have any ideas on how Memorial Park can use the twitter lists to build more community within the park, please feel free to message me your ideas on twitter (@socialuprise) or share your ideas with us by leaving a comment.
